Holy Orders

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. - Ephesians 4:1-6

Every Catholic sacrament requires the presence of an ordained man in one way or another. But how are deacons, priests or bishops appointed to these special roles? Catholic priests, deacons and bishops receive their authority through the Sacrament of Holy Orders. This sacrament imparts unique graces so that these men may serve the spiritual needs of the Church. A baptised man must be ordained as a deacon before being ordained a priest and ordained a priest before being ordained a bishop. Just like with marriage, Holy Orders is a Sacrament of Service and is a promise given to God for life.

Vocation Brisbane

Vocation Brisbane is focused on cultivating a culture of vocation to form new leaders for the Catholic Church community of Brisbane. They provide opportunities for young people to have access to spiritual direction and feel supported in their journey of discovering their vocational calling.

Holy Spirit Seminary

Holy Spirit Seminary, the provincial seminary for Queensland, supports our future priests as they begin their formation journey to a life devoted to God, the Church and His people. Their education and formation focuses on Human, Spiritual, Intellectual, and Pastoral development.

Co-located with the Australian Catholic University's McAuley campus in Brisbane, the seminary provides for the education and formation of future priests in the Cairns, Rockhampton, Townsville and Toowoomba dioceses as well as the Brisbane Archdiocese.
