Timor-Leste Companions

A Partnership of Faith, Friendship and Solidarity

Timor-Leste Companions is a group of parishioners from the combined Catholic Communities of Grovely-Samford and Mitchelton in Brisbane’s northwest suburbs. Timor-Leste Companions was formed in 2009 to create links with a community in Timor-Leste. After initial explorations, the district (and town) of Liquiça with the parish and schools of St John de Brito was identified as suitable to partner with. A partnership of faith, friendship and solidarity has grown since, with visitors from Liquiça to Brisbane, and Brisbane to Liquiça to help strengthen the bonds between communities. The aim of the sister-parish relationship is to mutually enrich our faith life, to better understand our different cultures as well as materially support our friends in Liquiça by sending funds as needed for building projects, student supplies, sponsorship and more.

Our group welcomes the involvement of our community. Donations to support the needs of our friends in Timor-Leste are very welcome. Please contact the parish office for more information.

Meetings are held the 1st Thursday of every month in the St William’s Parish Library from 7.30pm.

Students from St John de Brito Primary School.
